The versatile hand-knotted rug made with hand spun wool offers luxurious texture with exceptional durability.

What is hand spun wool?

Hand spun wool is distinct from machine-spun wool in several ways:

·      Texture - Hand spun wool has natural irregularities in its thickness, giving it a unique organic texture.

·      Color variation – When hand-dyed, the variation in the yarn’s density causes it to absorb dye unevenly, creating beautiful color variations known as “abrash”.

·      Resilience – The hand process is less abrasive to the fibers, retaining more of the natural protective lanolin oils, which result in a more resilient and durable yarn.

·      Sustainability – The production process for hand spun wool involves fewer chemicals and less energy consumption.

Care of hand-knotted wool rugs

Hand-knotted wool rugs are easy to maintain due to natural lanolin, which makes them stain-resistant and durable.  Regular maintenance requires gentle vacuuming.  For spills, immediately blot with a white cloth and use water and a clear soap if needed.  Do not use harsh chemicals as they can damage the wool permanently.

Agora Fine Rugs offers a vast selection of hand-knotted rugs in all wool pile and wool and real silk. We feature a distinctive array of rugs in traditional, transitional, and modern styles.
